Hotel Check: Hotel Tigaiga, Puerto de la Cruz/Tenerife

The family-run four-star Hotel Tigaiga is located in Taoro Park, above the centre of Puerto de la Cruz in the north of Tenerife. Away from the hustle and bustle, it is easy to switch off here.

The Hotel Tigaiga is located almost 100 metres above sea level and thus above the city centre of Puerto de la Cruz. Puerto de la Cruz is the tourist centre of the north coast of Tenerife. Fortunately the picturesque old town centre of the former fishing village has been preserved here. It can be reached over a 900-metre long, partly stepped path.

The rooms: spacious, quiet and with views
Like all 76 double rooms and seven superior rooms of the hotel, my room is spacious and modernly furnished. The colours blue and green dominate the décor, bringing nature directly into the room. My room faces the garden; I am all the more pleased with my balcony. From here, I look straight to the Teide, the highest mountain of Spain with 3718 metres.

My other room highlights: First of all, the rooms are all sound-proofed and effective. Secondly, the very comfortable bed. A combination that could tempt one to miss the breakfast on purpose. But this would be a mistake, as the breakfast buffet in the Hotel Tigaiga is my third highlight – sun place on the terrace included.

Relaxation in the tropical garden
For a relaxing day’s holiday, numerous deck chairs are available in the garden and around the heated pool. At the Hotel Tigaiga there are more palm trees than guest beds – so everyone is guaranteed a shady spot. Nature lovers can discover the feeling of wood, pebbles, bark mulch and volcanic rock on the barefoot nature trail “Paseo de Cosquillas”. I love to go barefoot, so such nature trails are always a special pleasure for me. And you don’t walk on cold lava every day

Hot or not?
Can I recommend the Hotel Tigaiga? Absolutely! At least if you are looking for peace and quiet, are closer to nature than to luxury and don’t want to have the nearest sandy beach right under your nose. The atmosphere in the hotel is warm and personal, the service impeccable. It is clearly noticeable that this is not a hotel chain but a family business.
